This is probably my new favourite breakfast for early weekday mornings. I used to think that oatmeal porridge was something people ate in a grey and distant past, inspired by some outdated Calvinist notion about character building and the dangers of early-morning hedonism, or simply because they hadn’t invented nice breakfast foods yet. I was wrong. Porridge can be both comforting and tasty. Here’s how to make sure it is.
Ingredients for 1 bowl
250 ml(coconut or cow’s) milk*
1 banana, sliced
1 tsp raw honey
40-50 g oatmeal
Add the oats to the milk in a little pan and heat for about 10 minutes while stirring regularly. When the porridge has acquired your desired consistency, put it in a bowl. Add the sliced banana and the honey and enjoy. It’s as simple as that.
* Both regular milk and coconut milk (I use Alpro Coconut Drink) work equally well. I like to vary between them from time to time, but if you’re using cow’s milk, make sure it is fresh and of good quality. Trust me, it’s worth paying a little extra for.
Nice, will have to try this out with my Local Honey tomorrow! Yum!
